Packaging Lead / Cellarman

Cabarrus Brewing Company is looking for an experienced, professional, and motivated team member to lead our packaging department. The ideal candidate is someone who has previous knowledge in canning and/or bottling, experience in working in a production brewery setting, and a passion for craft beer. Knowledge of and experience with cellar work is a big plus.

Position Details:

- Department: Packaging, Cellar/Production

- Reports to: Head Brewer, Operations Manager

- FLSA Status: Salary, Exempt

- Monday through Friday, holidays off.

- 42K – 47K p/year salary

About the Position:

This person will be responsible for day to day operations of our 6 head, counterpressure, Codi canning line, depalletizer, and labeler. Packaging duties extend into kegging, and very occasional bottling. Cellar duties include carbonation to brand specifications, CIP/SIP of brite tanks, adjunct recirculation, transfers, and yeast collection and counting. Occasional warehousing, organizing, and inventory are also a part of this position.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:

- Packaging predetermined quantities of cans, and kegs

- Maintains a clean, safe, and efficient canning line

- CIP/SIP of canning line

- Carbonation of beer

- Checking carbonation, and dissolved oxygen of beer before canning

- Inventory of packaged products, and raw materials

- Palletizing cases, kegs, and raw materials for canning runs

- Leading a team in packaging quality beer in a safe and efficient manner.

- Regular attendance to work packaging shifts as scheduled by the Head Brewer

- Work in tandem with Head Brewer, Production Schedule, and QC & QA.

- Operate machinery following all safety guidelines in an efficient manner.

- Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled or packaged products to brewery standards.

- 3+ years of cellar work experience is desired.

- 2+ years of canning machine operations experience is desired.

- Keep the packaging areas and workspaces clean and organized.

- Perform cellar tasks such as cleaning, sanitizing and pressurizing tanks, kegging, keg washing, and other tasks as needed.

- Help as needed in other parts of the brewery (team player)

- Perform basic and preventative maintenance on machinery to ensure it is functioning safely, properly, and efficiently.

- Communicate all mechanical issues to the Head Brewer in a timely manner.

- Communicate the department's materials needs with the Operations Manager to ensure the production schedule is executable.

- Maintain packaging tools and materials by storing them safely, neatly, and in an organized fashion.

- Ensure finished product is safely and neatly stored in the cooler, logged, and updated in brewery software (we use EKOs) accurately.

- Complete all paperwork associated with each duty with 100% accuracy!

Technology and Equipment Requirements:

- Basic computer proficiency

- Operating QA/QC Equipment (Anton Paar C-Box)

- Operating Canning Line (Codi, 6 head counterpressure filler)

- Extremely high level of attention to detail

- Proven ability to work well with others.

- Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.

- A flexible schedule with the ability to work mornings, nights, and weekends (on rare occasions)

- Strong overall understanding of safety procedures, regulations, and requirements

- Creative problem solving / Solution oriented.

Physical Requirements:

- Must be able to perform simple grasping, fine manipulation, and repetitive hand and arm movements frequently.

- Must be able to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull, and walk on uneven surfaces on occasion.

- Must be able to work in hot, cold, and wet environments

- Must be able to climb stairs both inside and outside.

- Must be able to lift a minimum of 55lbs.

- Must be able to use a ladder, and work from heights above 10ft.

- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

- Must be able to work nights and weekends on occasion.
